We've all seen those too many of those "please recommend me the best games on Wii" threads that pop up pretty much three times a week, and we're all a bit sick of them. So, with a little bit of inspiration (okay, a blatant copy-paste) from this excellent DS thread and in the interest of putting an end to these threads once and for all, and also to celebrate the system's fifth year of life, I present the official recommendation thread of games that people seem to like. (Note: this list doesn't include truly cross platform ports, such as Rock Band or LEGO Batman)

I'm going to assume that 4 posts is enough for you. So good idea for a thread. Looks like you covered most of the bases except for Korinpa and the Trauma Center games.

Nice job, man! Getting all those links without the search function must have been a pain.

Thanks to Super Mario Galaxy 2 and No More Heroes 2 my Wii's been getting a fair amount of use this year already. Looking forward to Sin & Punishment 2 and Metroid: Other M later this year!

For under the Music/Rhythm header, maybe Helix on WiiWare? Have heard good things about it, have not yet tried it myself though.

Updated with Kororinpa and Trauma Center, looking for a site that has good images of like every game at a small enough resolution to be postable. Going to check out IGN, anyone else have any ideas?

I'm slowly selling of my Wii stuff. I bought it for the wife and kids and they never touch it. I can't imagine the Wii as a primary console, no insult intended, just nothing appeals to me.

That's a cool sounding game, I will remember to pick it up later :D

I've done a simliar thread in a german forum (I had pubs and devs in it too) and I think that IGNs thumbnails are pretty much perfect.

You might as well put the Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band under music and rhythm games. Sure, it's not a console exclusive but they're still the best rhythm games on the console.

I know this is counter to most people, but Elebits and SSX Blur are awesome games.

Elebits, yes. I wish they'd make a sequel and not as a DS game.

SSX Blur, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Buy a gamecube controller and SSX3.

also, Link's Crossbow Training needs to be in the OP. The game cost $2 and is amazing.

Bah, Blur was a great game once you got use to the controls.

i would put the bit trip series under Music/Rhythm because .. that is basicaly what the series is about in my view.

Needs more wiiware ... like the Art Style series

Also, Wario Land Shake it

Good initiative! Nice work.

I know some people like to call Punch-Out!! a puzzle game and stuff, but to me this is as weird as calling Mario Kart, Smash Bros. and Wii Sports Resort party games instead of racing game, fighting game and sports game. Sure, it's not realistic and the bosses have patterns, but this is still a game about boxing. It is a unique take on boxing, but to me it's more about what the game is about than how it's played (the exception being games with very abstract presentation, because they're basically defined by their gameplay). Heck, I'd even be fine with giving the game its own genre name, like Pattern Boxing or something. I see you've put Resort in the Misc. category, which I find a bit odd as well.

Oh, whoops, Resort shouldn't be there. Punch-Out, eh, I'm really not sure what to do with it. Anyone else want to weigh in on weather it should be sports or puzzle?

Damn it, I'm trying to convince myself that SMG2 alone isn't a good enough reason to pick up a Wii again and you list like a million others.

No problem :). You know, if it's hard to decide, just put PO in the Misc. section. The question of genres in video games is hard. There are many labels I disagree with (not talking about your thread, just in general).

I'd add Mushroom Men and The Munchables, though not everyone would agree. Bit.Trip Runner should be moved to this category. Whatever else you want to say about the Wii, Nintendo once again has the best platforming console around.

Also, no Fragile? I haven't played it, so I have no idea whether it's deserving or not.

BocoDragon

or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Realize This Assgrab is Delicious
After a few years of bitching that the Wii had nothing but big Nintendo properties and awful shovelware... It's started to amass a large amount of the quirky Japanese titles I enjoy.. Stuff like Muramasa, Klonoa, NMH2, Silent Hill and Okami make the world go round.

Also it's downloadable selection is great! I collect physical retro games wherever possible, but between import VC games and neo-retro games, I am in heaven. Sin and Punishment, Dracula X, Megaman 9+10, CAVE STORY... I'm gaming like its the 80s and 90s again!!

<3 what the Wii library has grown into.

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams is also way better than one might think. It's basically a level pack for the first NiGHTS, a bit easier and with a few rough spots, but overall a really great expierience. Also: Sonic & the Secret Rings is a nice game, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz is, too (dispite having a horrible successor).

IMO Super Paper Mario is more of a platformer, but it's fine under RPGs. Either way, it's by far the best Wii game I've played to date in either category. Bump it up the list :)

Hm, what genre would you classify NiGHTS as?

It is.

Wii is a solid system and between the solid disc based games in all genres, glowingly impressive wii-ware lineup, and VC for nostalgia purposes, I don't see how you could be bored with the system.

step and roll isnt really that bad.. the first three levels are piss easy but it gets much better after that and the balance board stuff is pretty neat

Just make a link as normal but where you would normally have the text put the image code.
Like: [.URL="http://neogaf.com"][.img]image url here[/img.][/URL.] but without the dots of course.
