My tree

I love the smell of evergreen but I can't stand to kill a tree. So we kept the "evergreen" idea and I started decorating the Ficus Benjamina in the living room. I love the idea that it has been our Christmas tree for more than ten years now.

I started hanging little house at the birth of my son in 2007. They became a book. My first book! I worked on many books since, but this year I took a copy of "My Town " to celebrate and made many pretty ornaments out of the little houses in the book. Happy Holidays!

Une amie se demandait à quoi ressemble mon arbre de Noël...Elle sait que je n'aime pas couper un arbre et le laisser mourir dans mon salon ( même si je trouve que ca sent délicieusement bon) ...Et puis ici il fait chaud, les fleurs et les arbres se fanent vite. Donc depuis dix ans c'est le ficus du salon qui reçoit les decorations de Noël. J'aime bien l'idée d'avoir le même arbre depuis dix ans, et ça respecte la tradition ancienne d'avoir quelque chose de vert. 

A la naissance de mon fils j'ai commencé à mettre des petites maisons dans l'arbre pour Noël. C'est ce qui a donné l'idée de mon premier livre, alors cette année pour boucler la boucle j'ai carrément acheté un exemplaire de Mon Village pour orner l'arbre. Ces maisons là je les garderais bien précieusement pour les ressortir...Une tradition de plus.

J'ai fait des guirlandes avec des pompons pour que ca soit plus gai, et si j'ai le temps demain je fais un sort au boules qui brillent avec un pot de peinture...ça manque de rayures non? Joyeux Noël à tous!

Enjoy! I inspired myself from my book "My Town" this time. The house in My Town are precut  (hurray! I hate cutting out, I am not patient) and more easy to build, get it if you want to make more little houses for a pretty Christmas ^^

I ran out of my author's copies, and I will have to buy some more myself to decorate my tree. Orderin' now!

Un ornement pour le 25 du calendrier...Ou juste pour le plaisir! Je le trouve très très mignon, il va rester au dessus de mon bureau, je vais refaire d'autre maisons de "Mon Village" pour l'arbre.

The cutest house ornaments

I wanted to create a cute ornament and put it in our tree...I like it so much I might keep it in my studio and make another one for the tree!

There is a few technical problems with the paper engineering...the roof needs trimming , then I need to create the instructions and a pdf file, I will be back soon with a free download for you!

Travail en cours! Je me suis rendue compte en testant cette jolie petite maison que le toit était trop dur a monter...Allez-hop, j'y retourne, mais je reviens vite parce que ca va être TROP MIGNON.

Advent calendar 2013

I feel lazy this year, and wanted a very simple advent calendar.

I inspired myself from, yes, my very own book and created a simple paper chain. Isn't it fun?

Fold, cut, hide little gifts or fairy lights behind the windows. Done

You can make it in 5 minutes and go for hot cocoa. 

I might improve it a bit and create a background. Not sure. What do you think?

I stopped at the 24. I need to do something special for the 25. Not sure what. I need to think about it!

Moi, cette année, je n'ai le temps de rien, mais je veux tout quand meme! Je me suis inspirée de ha ben oui, mon propre livre :

Pour faire le calendrier de l'Avent le plus simple ( et le plus joli, allez) du monde.On plie, on coupe, c'est fini. 12 minutes pour tout faire. Plus facile... ça va être difficile. 

On met la ribambelle sur un meuble avec des cadeaux ou une guirlande de lumière derriere.
Je me demande si je ne vais pas ajouter un petit fond derriere les fenêtres, j'hésite, à votre avis?  En tous cas, il ne va que jusqu'au 24, pour le 25 il faut que je réfléchisse...

Mon bureau, teaser

Thinking about the Holiday season  : this year I will go for simple things with maximum show effect and minimum work. Let's go for a pretty, easy crafty season!

Cette année, je travaille super dur pour préparer des fetes de Noel crafty-fastoche. Le genre de truc qu'on peut faire avec un chocolat ET un enfant impatient. Donc, sur mon bureau, un modele en preparation...

En attendant si vous voulez de la magie et des cadeaux fait maison, il y a Ribambelle...Ce livre est super poétique, je suis un peu inquiete de son succès. Pas assez tape à l'oeil, trop joli, et tendre, ca ne marche pas bien ces jours-ci.

Ma maison de poupée (02)

We mounted and glued and had fun and here it is, my (our) little dollhouse. It's cute and stylish and it's a good toy and I couldn't be more proud!

Une photo en pied (en pieds en fait, j'encompte une trentaine)...Pour 25 euros je ne pense pas qu'on puisse faire mieux * et je suis super fière! Il faut un peu de patience pour monter les meubles, et je recommande de les renforcer quand c'est possible ( en particulier la cuisine)...Elle est démontable , mais comme elle ne tient pas beaucoup de place, je conseille de coller le mur du bas sur le sol et de raccourcir les languettes en dessous, c'est plus joli.

À propos de la taille : j'ai habité un tout petit appart à Paris. Ou deux. Ou trois? Une douzaine. Tous ensemble ça doit faire un moyen appart. Bref. Mes copines et leurs enfants n'ont pas tellement plus de place, donc ma maison est juste de la bonne taille pour jouer sur un coin de table et ranger après. Jusqu'à ce que je me consacre entièrement à l'illustration, je faisais aussi de l'interface utilisateur et de l'ergonomie de programme...Travailler sur l'ergonomie d'une maison de poupée c'est quand même beaucoup plus rigolo, et je me suis bien amusée, ca doir se voir, ou bien?

*On peut faire moins cher ou mieux, mais pas sans exploiter des gens... Ma fabricante est très responsable et mon editrice respecte mes heures de travail...

Here are a few candids of the dollhouse I made for Mango Jeunesse. A full dollhouse with furnitures costs something like a hundred and fifty dollars ( often 4 or five times that price) so we decided to make something fun and pretty and stylish for a quarter of that price. My furnitures are in strong paper and the house is a very sturdy cardboard that I hope will last for years, unless your sister sits on it. More on next post...

Voici un peu d'iPhonologie en attendant des photos un peu plus pros. C'est fou comme c'est difficile d'avoir le courage de monter le studio photo quand ton voisin dégomme ses carreaux de cuisine au marteau piqueur.

Ce sont les premières images de ma maison de poupée que j'ai crée pour Mango Jeunesse. Je n'en reviens pas du boulot de DINGUE, avec les plans et tout, presque aussi difficile que de faire une vraie maison (sans les calculs de murs porteurs ceci-dit) , mais le résultat est à la hauteur de mes espérances.

Comme dit mon fils amoureusement en la regardant "regarde maman, c'est joli comme à la maison, c'est le même chantier". C'est fait exprès. Pour moi, "juste assez", c'est "presque un peu trop". Comme ça on a le choix!

Je vous laisse vous amuser avec le gamin qui monte sur le canapé, la maman qui en a marre de monter des meubles, et le bébé qui laisse trainer ses jouets...C'est comme une illustration d'une vraie maison en 3D...C'est juste ce que je voulais.

Serendipity (about My Town)

My son was often with me while I was finishing "My Town".
He was going to preschool only 2 or 3 days a week, staying with me the rest of the time.

It's a choice we've made, a fine balance between a full working mom and a stay at home mom.
We enjoy our time together tremendously.

Bibu was really interested in the process of making "My Town".
He created his own models, would grab my prototypes as soon as finished (I made them twice, one for him, one for me) , and played with them for hours.
The idea of the garage model is his, and he was paid for it in brownie bites and Legos (for real).

I would spend most of my time with him when he was home, but sometimes I would work a bit while he was busy with his toy cars. He likes to play on my desk while I work and I cherish these quiet times.

I remember a busy Thursday : I was a bit in a hurry, trying to get hold of my fancy new camera before lunch time. And it was not going at all as I wanted.
I finally was about to take the picture when... 

A little hand and a car appeared in the viewfinder! Bibu thought something was missing in the shoot and trying to help. I kindly explained I felt my houses were perfectly fine without any Hot Wheels ™ addition, and since he didn't agree, I suggested I made my photo shoot and then organized his very own.

So he went for his prototypes, waited patiently (hum), then carefully created his idea of "My Town" on the set :

I helped him with the camera...Et voilà: Bibu's very own photo shoot (at 4 and a half!)

To Bibu's point of view, it was exactly what he wanted out of the book.
Lunch hour was past due , but my photos were done and his too. We ended up at a Dinners nearby eating grilled cheese sandwiches and french fries because it was too late for cooking and we felt like celebrating.

Watching the shot with Bibu, it gave me the idea to add a map with roads  at the end of the book, so you can use the little houses as a scenery for toy cars if you fancy it...

Totally nails it, right?
