These photos are made during the public event 'De slag om de achterhoek' in the Dutch town of Hengelo, starring the Dutch and German Windhund together with some other groups from the Netherlands (HRVN and DRG40-45 to name some). This event was organised by: http://www.achterhoeksmuseum1940-1945.nl

Photos made by Erik Suijkerbuijk. More and larger photos can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27535089@N ... 075568269/

-= Market Garden =-
The theme was operation Market Garden 1944, this year 65 years ago.
It shows a german column from the Aufklärung Abteilung (German recon) watching the Allied paratroopers being dropped nearby a Dutch village.
The Germans move towards the enemy and while they move inside the village, the much feared enemy JaBo's (allied fighter aircraft) attack the collumn and they move inside the church for cover.
After this attack, the Germans have to attack the American paratroopers, but fail to win this battle and are being taken prisoner.

Awesome pics! Finally some great Heer pics and not the usual SS stuff! Can someone tell me where I can find a checkered shirt like the guy is wearing?

What's with the "wounded" hands? As I have hand tattoos I am curious, do the bandages hide tattoos?

Hi mike,

I got that shirt at a regular clothes store, when the print looks like '30/'40 types and the shirt has the same cut as the shirts back than, it looks good.

The guy above had it because of a sharp point of the MG, that kept cutting in his hand. The other "wounded' hand was something from the mockbattle. Though it would look better with a bandage, than that you see your hand tattoo (back then tattoos weren't as widespread as it is nowadays.
