Decoupage Class

I decided to learn a new skill… the art of decoupage – from the French word découper, meaning to cut out. It is a craft that entails pasting cut-outs (typically paper) to an object and then covering them with several coats of varnish or pva glue in my case.

What was a boring wood box has now been prettied and is being used as a cd case.

Bookcase

As I have been away for so long.. I thought I would share what I have been up to.

This was a mini project, using an old nasty brown bookcase which I had been using hidden away in my spare room. I had several tins of tester pots of paint to use up plus some of the matching green left over from the front room.

My plan was to convert the bookcase into a thing of beauty and therefore could be brought out of hiding and into use in the front room.

I used a primer and 1st coat all in one initially, then the outside blue followed by the inside green.

See what you think of the result in the slideshow below.

RedFest 2015

Redfest Bristol is a free community music and arts festival based in the Redfield area of East Bristol.

 redfest

Redfest Bristol was founded in 2008 by a small group of volunteers looking to provide a showcase for local artistic talent whilst bringing an increased sense of community to the area. Redfest Bristol is entirely organised and run by volunteers. They are a not for profit organisation with a constitution and management committee.

The festival is now an annual event comprising performances, exhibitions and installations.  Fringe events are held during the year to maintain Redfest Bristol’s profile in the community whilst continuing to showcase a variety of artistic talents. Many events are hosted by local venues such as pubs, cafes, the community centre and church hall.

Prior to 2011 the festival was a small scale event lasting a week, and this generated excellent attendance in a number of venues. In 2011, following feedback from local residents, the week-long festival was successfully expanded to include a day-long event in St. George Park.

2014 in review – exciting stats!! lol

Hi peeps,

if your’re interested in things like this, then the WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for For Frock’s Sake!

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,000 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 33 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

Merry Christmas! A Reflection of 2014.

After a great 2nd year of semi-trading, For Frock’s Sake! is
continuing to develop and diversify its business concept.

From initially a way of trying to instigate a green philosophy of continuing the life of pre-loved clothes; participating in a more defined selection of events throughout Bristol to selling very pretty dress rings and learning about the differences between silver plated and filled jewellery!

The best sellers this year have been scarves, belts and the new and ever expanding range of dress rings and necklaces.

2015 will be bringing fresh ideas, including bringing in a range of new designer clothes chosen from upcoming
British designers…In-house photography will become
more focused, by using some of the best photos printed onto fabric and used for bags, cushions and purses.

Keep checking back to see what’s new and happening next with For Frock’s Sake!

Don’t forget you can join the membership for just £10, email or use the online form on the home page to get involved..

Merry Christmas and have a great New Year,

Felicity xx

The return to Retrolex!

This Saturday 4th October saw For Frock’s Sake! back at the fabulous Retrolex Vintage Fair in Cotham. It was a lovely day, despite the rain in the morning we still saw over 200 people visit. There is always an eclectic mix of goodies in this vintage and retro fair run by the delightful Lex and her team…including Mags, Flag Man (doh can’t remember his name!), the kitchen crew and of course Spot the Dog! It was lovely to see everyone again, my fellow stall holders –  old and new, and my favourite customers came and bought, special mention to Betty & Sylvia,  plus Helen and her mum.

Check out some of the pictures below:

WiRed

Introducing the Redfield Womens Institute or WiRed as they are known by.

I had the honour of doing a talk at the recent monthly meeting of the Redfield WI, about recycling clothes and textiles. Followed by a jewellery class with each participate learning how to make a pair of earrings to take home with them.

Apparently it was one of the best attended events that the group have had, which was great for them…but slightly unnerving to be faced with over 60 women all eager to take part in the clothes swap which we were doing after the talk. After a few facts and figures about re-cycling and the environment, I felt it was time to crack on… as you can see by the pictures below there were a lot of clothes and happy women with new outfits.

After the mayhem and merriment of everyone mingling and trying on various items, we moved onto the jewellery class.

About 10 ladies all had a go designing their own pair of stylish bead earrings, whilst learning about the different tools and findings used in the process. As several women found out, the hardest bit was actually choosing which beads to use! By the end of the mini class eveyone proudly showed off their creations.

It was a great night, with some new members for both the Redfield WI group and For Frock’s Sake! Please click on either group to find out more about joining.

If your group (be it school / womens group / WI / any cool collection of people) would like For Frock’s Sake! to organise a clothes swap or jewellery class then please use our contact form below to get in touch.

There will be more pictures to come of the jewellery!
