This is the moment firefighters decided to take an unscheduled shortcut by driving straight over a roundabout.

The speeding driver of the fire engine realised he had misjudged his speed just as he started to turn onto the roundabout.

To avoid a disaster, he kept driving straight, driving over the roundabout, with the fire engine bouncing into the air as it sped through.

The manoeuvre was caught on CCTV as the firemen were responding to an emergency call on the outskirts of the city of Vladivostok in south-eastern Russia's Primorsky Krai.

A spokesperson for the regional branch of the Russian emergency ministry said that despite avoiding an accident, the driver was still guilty for disobeying driving regulations.

The footage, which was uploaded onto social media, also happened in front of a police officer who was travelling nearby.

Social media have called for the driver to be let off the hook, arguing that traffic violations are sometimes justified for emergency services.

Vladivostok police also confirmed they have recommended no action be taken against the fireman driver as no one was hurt.
