It’s almost a heatwave: Montreal temperatures soar

MONTREAL – With the temperature in Montreal expected to soar Friday to highs of 32°C, it’s going to be hot and humid – but not quite a heatwave.

“It’s close to a heatwave,” said Andre Trentin, a spokesperson for Environment Canada. “It won’t quite meet the definition of a heatwave, but it will be close.”

With the added humidity, Montrealers can expect temperatures to feel more like 38°C to 40°C.

The erratic weather – from cold, to hot, rainy and foggy – can take a toll on our health. Rising temperatures and muggy, humid days, tamper with our heart rate, breathing and even our patience.

The other things to consider during the hot weather are the UV index and the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI).

Friday’s UV index will be 7 – considered high and the AQHI is expected to be at 3.

At this level, Environment Canada encourages people to continue with outdoor activities, but asks us to remember that the higher the Air Quality Health Index, the more likely people with respiratory or cardiac problems are to feel adverse effects from air pollution.

So remember to keep drink plenty of fluids, limit strenuous activity (especially outside) and protect yourself from the sun.
