Welcome, weary traveler, to the glorious City of Travnya. It is the pearl on the crown of the surrounding country side, rich in wonders and opportunities. Feel free to explore the magnificent boulevards, to stroll along one of the many marketplaces showing all their kinds of exotic goods, or just relaxing in the big park. If you're on business, we advise you to take a look either in the harbour, the mine district or our surrounding rich farmlands.
We are sure you will be pleasantly surprised, whatever the reason of your arrival might be.
Enjoy your stay!
This map is a cooperation project between me and TravisII, and a true showcase for the greatness of the UPatch 1.4
Not really meant for single play, but still possible. Not a lot of true cities in here, as the map is one huge sprawling metropolis.
Some restrictions in your cities are in place, so don't panic if you can't make your Karaghs everywhere.
Feel free to post comments or suggestions.
Good luck and have fun!
Update #1: Redesigned an object & fixed a broken teleport-event in one of the mini-dungeons.
Update #2: 1 extra pocket plane added, more objects, fixed another teleporter event, some more events, some extra clarifications here & there...
Update #2b: Solved a balance issue
Update #3: More heroes, more objects, some error corrections... And a birds-eye view surface map from a late-game test run. |

Other than that I think there is still too much 'green' in there for it to really feel like an all-city map to me, its a great piece of work! Attention to detail is superb, balance looks interesting, and I bet the atmosphere is very unique. Love the park idea and the farmerville outside the city! Lots of creativity there!
Can't wait to see some games on it!
:)
Cheers,
~

Playability: 5
Other then one special area that was a trap the rest of the map played very nicely.
Balance: 4
Mana and income are low enough to make the game play longer. And with unit limits on most of the cities you treasure the better units you can buy.
Creativity: 4
A nicely done map. No real new ground except on design!
Map Design: 5
A very pretty map that was well though out for placements, obstacles, etc...
Story/Instructions: 4
A little more story would have been nice, but still more then most.
Additional Comments:
The one surprise teleporter to an out of city area that featured a dragon's lair was a trap. Not sure this was intended as no warnings. I could not find a way out. Luckily I had just a couple turn old checkpoint. |

@ratpedler:
Every mini-dungeon should have an exit, as far as I know... How the hell did that one error escape all these testgames?
Edit: Strange, it's an event script that normally works perfectly, but it does not on this particular tile/dragonlair. I've uploaded the updated file, where now you'll find a teleporter hidden underneath the dragonlair. All hail BeastFeast for finding out how to put multiple buildings on 1 hex :)
Anyhow, thanks for the heads-up :)
Now, the lack of a grand story is because -very simply- we wanted to give the players a chance to play out their own ideas. An imposed story often stands in the way of such a thing. And well, the intro does point out the freedom you'll find in this scenario.
Maybe -somewhere far in the future- I'll make a re-edition of this map, more focused on single player and thus more story driven. But as I said, don't psyche yourself for that one.
@swolte:
The green is either because of it's inhabitants (Lizardmen, they re-difine the word "urban jungle" :p ) - demands (I'm rich, gimme a garden!), or because of the cities demands itself (the park & the farmland). Like many other cities that are the most well known cultural hotspots, they all carry their green belt/lung/whaddayacallit. Not every metropolis looks like S.L.A.Industries' "Mort".
Also, because there are 2 open rivers cutting through the city, it gives even more room for mother nature to put her stamp on this scenario.
So yes, it might give a rather green impression, but once in-game, one does not get that impression too much.
Also, there's already a game going on on this map, you can follow it here:

Very playable, I kind of like the limit on troops - makes the game more interesting. The berserkers made for a... well, odd as it sounds, a pleasant annoyance. I was fully expecting to have a 'Secrets of Marlenia human start': kill some indies, then let the guards on the gates keep the AI out will you build up XD
Balance: 4
Excellent use of income structures, really forces you to choose a select team for your forceful exploration, and with Survivalist, still allows for decent armies. However, I've only played undead, so can't comment fully. Also, I'm finding that the undead can churn out spell research like nothing else on this map, to the point at which on day 26 I was using a bone dragon to hold a gate.
Creativity: 5
I immensely enjoyed the setting of one, huge city. I've always played with the idea, but never done well. I'm rather glad you stayed away from the 'industrial city' approach, with stone, smoke, and metal everywhere, and instead incorporated farmland and rural-looking areas.
Map Design: 4
Very pretty to look at, no major flaws. I do, however, object to the trap near the undead start - I had Xulux, Lv. 15, running around with my killer stack and a bunch of items, left the city at the very south, and stepped on the teleporter, only to get script-teleported to the underground halfling farm/heal site/vaults, and unable to leave. Since I'm terrible about saving, and had spent to many turns not knowing I couldn't leave, I had to scrap the game, which upset me somewhat. I would give a 5 if it weren't for that.
Story/Instructions: 3
No actual in-game story to criticize/praise, just quests, so... meh.
Additional Comments:
A fun map, could use some fixes, but nothing's perfect. I look forward to seeing updates/new maps from you.[Edited on 04/27/12 @ 10:46 PM]
