Tom Wilson's Player Profile

Strengths – Tom Wilson is a big, strong, mean, physical power forward that will lay the body on you any chance he has. He uses his size and strength effectively to dominate down low and along the boards. His cycle game is very good, he’s good defensively, he can kill penalties and he’s tough as nails. He’ll do anything he can to help his team win, whether it’s blocking shots, laying a big hit, or chipping in offensively. Wilson will stick up for his teammates and will take on anybody that comes his way. He uses his size very well to drive the net and go to the dirty areas of the ice, and he’ll never take a shift off.

Weaknesses – Like every player, Wilson has several aspects of his game that he could improve on. His skating is not bad, but there is certainly room for improvement in that area. One scout said that arguably Wilson’s biggest weaknesses is inconsistency: “(He) needs to show he can put all the tools together consistently rather than one tool one night and another the next game”.

Career Projection – Second line (#2) right wing – After talking to several different scouts, the consensus is that Wilson will be a good second line winger who will take care of his business at both ends of the ice. While he could potentially fill in on the top-line if he must, he shouldn’t be relied upon in to produce big numbers for extended periods of time. He’s a complementary player, and he should be used as such.

Punishing winger with decent hands and promise in slot anchoring. Skating is a work in progress but his impact as an imposing offensive corner punisher is undeniable. Not destined to be a 20-goal NHLer, but will have merit down low and in front, as he brings nastiness and grit.
