The Xiaomi Redmi S2 was first mentioned by XDA Developers recently, as the phone’s firmware surfaced, and now the phone got listed on TENAA. TENAA is basically China’s equivalent to the FCC, so this means that the phone got certified in China. The Redmi S2 actually resembles some of the company’s already-released phones, like the Redmi 5, for example, while it also resembles the upcoming Mi 6X handset as well.

Having said that, the Redmi S2 will be made out of metal (at least it seems that way based on images, though it’s possible we’re looking at metal-looking polycarbonate), and it will ship with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. The phone will sport a single camera on the back, while an LED flash will sit below it, it seems. The device will utilize on-screen buttons, while we don’t really get to see the phone’s top and bottom bezels in the provided images, as the display is not powered on. The phone’s camera setup will protrude on the back, it will not be flush with the phone’s back side, while all the physical keys will sit on the right-hand side of the Redmi S2. According to TENAA, the phone will sport a 5.99-inch HD+ (1440 x 720) display, along with 2GB, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, and 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of native storage, respectively. It seems like Xiaomi plans to release three different variants of the Redmi S2, and all of them will sport a 3,000mAh battery which will not be removable.

A 12-megapixel camera will be included on the back of the phone, while a 5-megapixel camera will sit on the phone’s front side. The phone will be fueled by a 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz, and even though TENAA does not mention what chip is that exactly, XDA Developers said it’s the Snapdragon 625. The phone’s storage will be expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card, while the device will measure 160.7 x 77.3 x 8.1mm, and weigh 170 grams. The phone will be available in a number of color options, Black, Rose Gold, Gold, White; Blue, Red, Pink, Gray, and Silver color variants are listed on TENAA. Android 8.1 Oreo will come pre-installed on the device, claims TENAA, while Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 skin will be included on top of Google’s Android OS.
