After Dragonball Z: Battle of Gods became an instant success in japan, in a conference call the creator of the series Akira Toryiama declared that he's now planning to release a new Dragon Ball Saga with over 200 episodes!

My first reaction was "WoW!". I didn't believed at first, but when i saw another image of a newspaper apparently from japan confirming this statement i just cracked. I watch Dragon Ball since i'm like 4 lol. But i didn't nerdgasm like i knew about the movie because it was just unpredictable. Anyway, i can't find the pick of the newspapper anymore, shame on me.

It is pretty cool. I guess the series would focus on Goku and Vegeta reaching Super Saiyan God status, battling the other gods Bills was talking about and then maybe travelling to the other multiverses. Akira does have a lot to work with. Maybe a Super Saiyan God fusion between Goku and Vegeta? I hope Piccolo becomes a Namekian god. For too long he's sat on the sidelines in DBZ since the Cell Games and Majiin Buu saga. Once he fused with Kami and lost to Cell, Toriyama didn't use him for many big moments.

Pretty much this. Im excited for sure. VEGETA BETTER GET TREATED RIGHT FOR ONCE!!! I hear in the movie, he fares better at lvl 2 against Bills then Goku does at lvl3, and somebody even comments on it, if what I read is right.

Several of the plots I've read have confirmed that. I find it strange that Vegeta at SSJ2 can fare better against Bills than Goku at SSJ3. Based on the previous sagas, Vegeta was outclassed by Goku at SSJ2 during the Majiin Buu saga so let himself be possessed by Babidi to level the playing field. Then there's the fact SSJ3 multiplies Goku's power by 4 times the amount SSJ2 does. It just doesn't make sense that Vegeta can do better than Goku can without going SSJ3. That would have made more sense. We need more SSJ3s!

@lvenger: SSJ3 Vegeta would be amazing. Ive wanted that forever. Of course, it is pretty well established in DBZ lore that strong emotions make a them more powerful. But it does a lot to neutralize the power scaling argument, doesnt it? I have something of a theory that DBZ characters stopped making big power gains after the Frieza saga, that every advancement was incremental, and that each small amount of additional power just makes a huge difference with fighters so skilled and lethal to begin with. Think about this, USSJ Trunks was more POWERFUL than perfect Cell, but lost due to mobility. That means basically USSJ = SSJ2 in raw power.

If true....hope they use the other characters, power them up some way(the humans that is). Have them learn Kaio-Ken or something...ANYTHING, what is the point of having them if they don't do anything? They just seem like wasted potential.

I agree, I am a fan of DBZ it has a certain charm to it imo,but when compared to new anime/manga such as Claymore,Naruto,Bleach,Soul Eater,Reborn etc,it pails in comparison.

@danhimself: Actually that is a very popularly debated topic on forums (a debate I dont want to actually get into), was Vegeta lvl 2 before Babidi. There is no 100% concrete evidence one way or the other. So far as SSJ3 Goku being able to Majin Vegeta easily, its hard to say He didnt fair much better against Majin Buu, and Trunks noted that his power was similar to his dads. The thing about the Majin transformation is that it give nigh infinite reserves of energy.

I've never heard the debate before, though I've never really gone to many DBZ sites. I'm not 100% sure heck I'm not even 50% sure but doesn't Vegeta mention something in the anime about him being at the same level as Gohan was when he fought Cell? Goku himself says that he could have probably beat Fat Buu whenever he was holding him off for Trunks to go get the Dragon Radar but he wanted to give the kids and others a chance to save the world because he knew that he wouldn't be around forever

From the DBZ Wiki:
This is Vegeta's strongest form in Dragon Ball Z. This form turns as strong as Majin Vegeta when he returns to Earth by King Yemma. It is sometimes debated when he first achieved this form; there are quite a few hints he achieved it before he became Majin Vegeta, with practically none to the contrary, as Vegeta only states Goku to be stronger than Gohan once he, too transforms into Super Saiyan 2, holding complete confidence in his superiority over Gohan prior to becoming Majin Vegeta. He transforms into this state on his own free will from the normal Super Saiyan long after he became Majin Vegeta. - http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Vegeta

He tells Goku, "At least your more powerful than Gohan when he fought Cell", or almost like that, meaning that he may at least be a challenge as he is stronger than Gohan when he fought Cell

Goku says he's unsure if he could beat Majin Buu, but it appears he probably couldnt, as Majin Buu always seemed to have the upper hand.

Of course SSJ3 Goku > Majin Vegeta, I just dont think it would be a walk in the park. You want controversy compare Ultimate Gohan to SSJ3 Goku, whew (Gohan should be stronger).

I'd be very glad if this were true. Hope akira goes back to his original awesomeness, versatility instead of just "omgpower!!!" For me, dbz died with frieza.. or the moment super piccolo-kami lost to imperfect cell. That would be opportunity of such an insane powerup, and it was literally wasted for cell.

No it was intentional. I always thought Vegeta could reach Super Saiyan 2 without Babibdi's control. I mean in Battle of the Gods Vegeta is supposed to have surpassed Goku and he can't do that as a SSJ. Many of the games and official media have listed Vegeta being able to go SSJ2 but I've found nothing from Toriyama on it. Besides Vegeta had 7 years to train and Gohan reached SSJ2 in a year in the hyperbolic time chamber. It's not out of the question to assume that Vegeta can go SSJ2 as well. SSJs were useless against Majiin Buu anyway so to survive as long as he did against Kid Buu, Vegeta must have had to go SSJ2.

Goku says he's unsure if he could beat Majin Buu, but it appears he probably couldnt, as Majin Buu always seemed to have the upper hand.

Goku could have beaten Fat Buu as a SSJ3. I remember him telling Piccolo that he could have done it but decided against it to let Goten and Trunks learn the Fusion Technique and protect the Earth themselves. A stupid decision in hindsight but I can see where he's coming from.

As a fan of the series, I am both excited and worried. When DBZ initially came out and launched in North America and Europe, it was a different time that accepted different things. Pushing this back nearly two decades later might not have the same reaction.

see that's the only part of the debate that I can agree with

when he's confident that he can beat Gohan at the World Martial Arts Tournament it's because he knows that Gohan has been lazy and hasn't trained since he beat Cell and we know that going SSJ isn't something that once it's unlocked they can just do it whenever they want...the first time Goku meets Future Trunks he asks Goku if he can SSJ at will now and Goku says yes that it took him some training but he got it down....plus Gohan had a really hard time turning SSJ2 against Dabura and needed Goku's pushing to transform again...so it's pretty feasible that he Vegeta knew that Gohan couldn't transform to SSJ2 during the tournament

when they're battling their way through Babidi's ship and Goku beats Yakon Vegeta says something like "I see Kakarot has surpassed SSJ as well" I believe that he was talking about Gohan there

plus doesn't Vegeta say something to Goku about how he had trained constantly for 7 years and couldn't go any further?

@danhimself: He says he trained for seven years but still couldnt catch up, that Goku still stayed out of his reach. It is actually part of the reason why I believe he had reached SSJ2 before the Majin transformation, because he was pretty confident he could beat Goku before seeing how much power Goku had added. Why would he be so confident if he hadnt improved, or had only improved a little?

@lvenger: Episode 247, "the Fusion Dance", right around the 11 Min 30 Sec mark, Piccolo asks if Goku could have beaten Fat Buu "If he had really tried?", Goku replies, "I dont know. Majin Buu is really powerful. It may be impossible for me to beat him." In that episode, he even says Gotenks is more powerful then him, which I never noticed, and I would say I disagree with based on evidence in the series.

The thing about Vegeta being confident about beating Gohan is that Gohan could still go SSJ2. Here's the proof

Loading Video...

And if he's confident about beating a SSJ2, it must be because he too can go SSJ2. Even if he is weaker than he was at the Cell Games, a SSJ2 is still a SSJ2 ie it multiples the SSJ power by 2. Even Vegeta's SSJ form might not be enough to surpass Gohan so obviously Vegeta knew his SSJ2 form was superior to Gohan's. Plus Vegeta was pretty confident he could beat Dabura and Dabura was equal to Cell in power. Vegeta's SSJ attempts to beat Cell were in vain so he must have been able to go SSJ2 to make him so relaxed about Dabura.

As for Vegeta's comments to Goku in their fight later on, I'm pretty sure it was only in relation to after Vegeta had seen Goku perform against Yakon. He was pretty confident about proving himself superior to Goku during the World Martial Art Tournament. Once Goku proved he could release a lot of his power yet still function in peak form, Vegeta knew that his power wasn't equal to Goku's so let himself be possessed by Babidi to level the playing field.

@lvenger: Yeah, and I honestly have no idea how canon in DBZ works when they are both content from Akira Toriyama. I know that around the Buu saga the series and Manga were coming out about the same time. One or the other could be a mis-translation. So I dont really know. Based on what we're given in the show though, his dialogue, and more importantly IMO, his performance, i'd say he would have fared slightly better than Majin Vegeta.

Also, there is the Kid Buu vs Goku SSJ3 consideration. Kid Buu has often been incorrectly referred to as the most powerful Buu, when in reality that honour goes to either Buuhan or Buu w/ South Supreme Kai. Kid Buu is very likely near Skinny Buu's levels.

When I say Skinny Buu I do mean Evil Buu. So far as the "Buu w/ South Supreme Kai absorbed", there is a form of Buu only shown on two occasions, once in a flash back and once after he purged most of the people he absorbed, it is a super buff looking form of Super Buu. The characters actually say that his power reached its highest point in this form, at least in the show. Then he kicks fully over into Kid Buu. Even with them saying his power is at its apex, I dont know if it is truly his most powerful form as it may have a lot in common with USSJ Trunks.

Yeah, Kid Buu is probably pretty comparably to him. Remember Skinny Buu/ Evil Buu manhandled Fat Buu as well. Its impossible to say for sure, but I suspect theyd be almost evenly matched, with Kid Buus pure chaos being one of the advantages. This is just opinion based on observation, I cant prove it for sure obviously.

Negative. Sure, there are some things that are repeatative in DBZ, but dragon ball, upto friza saga isn't short of any seris I have seen. If you still go and see the vegeta vs goku fight, you will still have that awesome feeling with Goku's kaio ken.. times four! The anime was a master piece, and it should've ended at the frieza saga. Goku is a major reason for it, he has a class that most of the protagonists lack.

I really hope they adapt this time, though, like piccolo getting some demon based powers (Well, he was sort of demonic), krillin, yamcha, tien learning something worth mentioning.. more clarifications and less plot holes would be good.

Edit: And some actual destruction/speed feats to be useful on forum lol.

Re edit: On second thought, no, leave it. No anime should ever be made for the sake of battle forums..

@lvenger: I will say that I believe Kid Buu to be around base Super Buu's level. Majin Buu was equal to Evil Buu albeit less ruthless which was his downfall and Majin Buu was thoroughly manhandled by SSJ3 Goku while Kid Buu was pushing him and actually beating him. It could even be argued that he was toying with him
