The film adaptations of the Twilight literary saga penned by Stephenie Meyer, while not too well-received by the members of this forum, have been a huge hit both in theaters and home video. Next up is The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which comes out on a a special-edition Blu-ray flipper combo on December 4, and Blu-ray.com has the Twilight Saga: Eclipse Blu-ray review.
Staff reviewer Martin Liebman considers that under the "hype and hoopla" of the saga lies an interesting premise in the relationship between the vampire Edward and the human Bella. However, the movie is "far too bloated," and inspired moments are drowned out by "laborious stretches that reduce the movie from 'good' to merely 'passable."
The audio/video presentation is top-notch. The picture is film-like, and makes the film "almost worth watching for the transfer alone." Likewise, the movie's lossless DTS track "is perfectly balanced and always satisfying."
In the extras department, the major features are two commentaries (with the one featuring author Stephenie Meyer getting the upper hand), and an hour-and-a-half making-of documentary.
In his conclusion, Marty considers that Twilight is "a good series and a (so far) decent collection of movies that get a bad rap because of mass overexposure and limitless hype." As to Eclipse, he ventures that "many might be surprised" that it is actually a fair movie "that's more than two hours of a shirtless Taylor Lautner and a hunky Robert Pattinson gazing out towards a googly-eyed audience." Overall, it is a quality release, recommended to fans, "as if there were all that many fence-sitters to begin with.
Went to this in the theater expecting to see something exciting. Instead I was bored silly and nearly walked out. And the oh so dangerous battle that this movie so painstakingly led up to, turned out to be a very brief non event. I have no intention of ever watching it again.
I find this series entertaining in a so-bad-it's-good way. I have to view them at home instead of seeing them theatrically because my laughing out loud disturbs the people who are into it. Everyone in the films overacts except for Taylor Lautner, who can't act at all, and as a result is the only believable "teenager" in the film.
I especially like how all the guys in the series are hot for Bella, when almost every other girl in the school is more appealing. Bella mopes around like a moody teenager who has to babysit her younger brother on Saturday night.
There's not really a reason for news about reviews, but news for Twilight?! Twilight literally consists of utmost foolishness, and anyone who reads this must of been desperate for finding a random book to read, and was seduced by the idiocy, only to become... (breathes hard)... a Twilight fan! O_O
Can't wait till next Saturday to get this. All the Twilight blus so far have looked and sounded great. This will be the best one yet. The movie itself was excellent!
Definite Buy....read all 4 books....loved them...Breaking Dawn the last one was my fav.
Did not care for the 1st movie, a lot had to do with the director Catherine Hardwicke...i will never see one of her movies again.....bad director. I still have all the movies on blu-ray and will definitely be getting this one.
