Thread: [Addon] How to install custom fonts for addons

I recently wrote this guide for my guild and figured I'd post it here as well =)

This is a guide on how to install custom fonts for your in-game addons, such as Pitbull, Recount, Classtimers, etc.

First you'll need to download and install the addons Shared Media, and Shared Media Additional Fonts (actually, I don't know if you have to download Shared Media, but I'm guessing it's the core for the Additional Fonts).

Next, go look around online for some pretty fonts. These have to be TrueType fonts though, the .ttf ones. I use DeviantArt and dafont.com. Download the fonts that you want.

Third, pull up your Shared Media Additional Fonts folder (under World of Warcraft\Interface\), and drag and drop your new fonts into the Fonts folder (World of Warcraft\Interface\SharedMediaAdditionalFonts\fonts\).

You have one more step to go. Open the SharedMediaAdditionalFonts.lua file in Notepad (right-click, open with...). If you can't find Notepad on the list, go to Browse at the bottom of the little menu, and go to the directory "Computer\Local Disk (insert whatever letter drive that you have Windows installed on)\Windows\", and at the very bottom of the folder, you should see Notepad.exe. It is important you don't open this in a smart text editor, such as Open Office or Word.

Okay, so now you should be getting a document with lots of directories such as this:

SharedMediaAdditionalFonts:Register("font", "Alba Super", [[Interface\Addons\SharedMediaAdditionalFonts\fonts\ALBAS___.ttf]])

What I just did for my fonts was copy one of the previous directories, pasted it at the end of the list, and then edited the line for my own font, so I came up with this:

SharedMediaAdditionalFonts:Register("font", "denial", [[Interface\Addons\SharedMediaAdditionalFonts\fonts\denial.ttf]])

Once you're done editing the directories for your fonts, make SURE to save the document (File > Save). Go ahead and close everything out, start up WoW, enable Shared Media and the Additional Fonts for whatever toon you need, and there ya go! The font you installed should now be available for all of your addons to use, ranging from Xperl to Pitbull, to Recount to Omen, and even Classtimers and Prat.

If your fonts don't show up in the list, there was prolly an error in installing, more than likely through editing the .lua file, so go back and make sure you didn't make any mistakes. If the font shows up, but it looks weird, then it might not be compatible. Try installing it on your computer first and see if it still looks screwed up.
