Tip for buying a Ballistic Evo 2 LI Battery.

Do Not Buy The 8 cell as Recomended on the Ballistic website. Got one and installed 2 days before going to moto GP at Laguna seca. Had to jump every morning and would not start 2 hrs after riding. Was PO'ed and got a 12 cell which works fine. Unless you are a racer and charge the battery before starting/the 8 cell is a joke.

Whoever advised an 8 cell was way wrong. Minimum should be 12 cell for our bikes and even an 18 cell would be good for really heavy duty use.

Up here in the cooler regions of the Northern hemishphere, neither 8 or 12-cell will cut it. I ordered the 8-cell. Useless. They sent me the 12-cell. Almost as useless. And that included charging them before EVERY ride! If you want your bike to start on the button every time. I'm afraid, you'll still have to rely on good old lead-acid technology. It may be different further South though...

I have an Alien Motion 12-cell battery. Starts fine until temperature drops below 50F. Then it's reluctant to start and progressively more of a pain unless you keep the battery warm by taking it out overnight and keeping it indoors. If it were good to 40 degrees or so, that would be the temperature at which I would rather drive the car, anyway. My conclusion is it's not perfect for cold starts on cold mornings, but it does the job otherwise so far. It needs to last another year for me to equal the time I got out of the original lead acid battery, and then the true longevity test can begin.

The bike re-starts fine after it gets warmed up, even at freezing temperatures, so you might try keeping the battery indoors overnight if cold starting is your problem.

And before you pull the trigger, here's a bit of background info for anyone who desires to actually get anywhere near the advertised life expectancy & performance out of them.

Strangely enough, I've got both an 8-cell and a 12-cell in stock at very reasonable prices!

Last spring I installed an Alien Motion 8 cell and as stated above for the Ballistic basically useless. Swapped the 8 for a 12 cell and life is good. My dealings with the Alien motion staff has been great and I'm pleased with this battery.
