Recent years – particularly 2020 – have dealt us all kind of real-world horrors. From the rise of the alt-right, to the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s been a terrifying time – but prime material for the horror genre to turn into resonant, spooky, and cathartic movies. Take Halloween Kills, the upcoming sequel to David Gordon Green and Danny McBride’s 2018 film, which picks up right where that film left off – and promises another night of terror for Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode and her family. According to Green, it’s a sequel that channels themes that couldn’t feel more timely.

“This film is about community fear, paranoia, misinformation and crowd panic,” Green tells Empire of Halloween Kills. “This movie is a great popcorn genre movie and not really any kind of statement, but it’s strange how things line up. It couldn’t be a more interesting time to release a movie like this.” And speaking of timeliness, here’s a brand new image from the film, with a dangerous horrifying maniac leaving a white house.

That is, of course, Michael Myers strolling out of the burning wreckage of Strode’s home-turned-stronghold – which (SPOILER WARNING) he was trapped in during the climax of the last Halloween as it went up in flames. But of course, this is the boogeyman, we’re talking about – and Myers could be heard breathing loudly at the end of the film’s credits.
