Viggo Mortensen Hopes To Work With David Cronenberg On A New Film Next Year

Even though this year sees the release of Viggo Mortensen’s directorial debut, “Falling,” it would appear that the actor-turned-filmmaker’s career in front of the camera is far from over. In fact, according to Mortensen, he already has his heart set on reteaming with a frequent collaborator, David Cronenberg, for a new film maybe next year.

Speaking at this year’s Lumiere Film Festival in France, Mortensen shared his desire to team up with Cronenberg for a new film sometime in 2021. Of course, no details were shared about what film that might be or if it’s just wishful thinking. However, just the idea of the actor and director teaming up for the fourth time is enough for us to get excited.

Previously, the Mortensen/Cronenberg collaboration first started in 2005 with the release of “A History of Violence.” That feature earned rave reviews for both the actor and director, including nominations for awards such as two Oscars, multiple Golden Globes, and even the Palme d’Or at Cannes. The two men later reteamed in 2007 with the film, “Eastern Promises.” Once again, that received incredible reviews and even earned Mortensen an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Their most recent collaboration was in 2011 with the release of “A Dangerous Method.” That film earned the actor another major awards nomination, this time for a Golden Globe.

Interestingly, Mortensen and Cronenberg did team up for “Falling,” but not in the way film fans might suspect. In that case, Mortensen was behind the camera, and Cronenberg was acting, playing a proctologist in the film.

Needless to say, after multiple solid films together, it would be amazing to see Mortensen and Cronenberg collaborate again. It’s been almost a decade since their last film, and six years since the director has released a feature. So, it would appear that both men are due for a new project together. We’ll just have to wait and see.
